Dinner with the housekeeper

The wind was howling and the temperature was chilly but our executive housekeeper's house glowed with warm rays of light. The moment we stepped into the house it was warm and gosh the aroma of the curry chicken simply made us hungry. Ms chen's home was nicely done up and definitely neat and tidy as compared to the scene we have back in our apartment and oh my we love the house at first sight.

There was curry chicken and assam prawn on the menu and for soup there's bak kut teh, talk about some home cook singapore dinner. She's a great lady but it's kinda sad that she will be leaving to help Four Seasons Macau with their opening just before Christmas. Having to know Singaporeans when you're overseas is always a heart warming experience that is kinda hard to explain.

look at the time

Gosh... its been some time since i last wrote something. oh well life has been good and the weather, ahh yes the weather has been getting chillier as the days fly past. Every morning is a challenge for me to leave the comforts of my warm bed and step into the world that's freezing and my oh my the temperature is just gonna get lower as the days flies into november. I have only eight days left in housekeeping and i feel like staying in the department as it's so much fun especially as a room attendant although its tough work.

There was one saturday where we went to suzhou with several of our colleagues from housekeeping and the night before was a steamboat supper that ended at two thirty in the morning. gosh i only slept for three hours and we had to leave the house for the train station. the steamboat was delicious especially the spicy soup base with the spicies. when winter is in full swing its gonna be steamboat once a week or more.

The most exciting part was when we're back in shanghai in the evening all tired and sleepy, we went pubbing and even had a hair cut after dinner at a peranakan restaurant. The jazz club had this really cool and dreamy atmosphere with small round tables and high stools with some candle lit lamp with red beaded shades. Argh but the music on saturday nights totally killed the mood, the jazz band was no jazz band but somehow sounds like my juniors playing some concert piece on their own without harmony.

Sheryl and i were cursing and watching in disgust as the other shanghainese enjoyed the so called jazz music. the hair cut was however more exciting as we simply stroll into a hair salon near the jazz club and gosh it was heart racing as the feller snipped and snapped away. When your instructions were i want it short and as i point to some photo in a magazine. Surprisingly the style was nice and it looks kinda cool.

without fresh grated coconut for the outer coating but Stay tune for my next one of twenty odds as i attempt to make some peranakan onde ondesome gorgeous dessicated grated coconut that smells really wonderful.

a breeze of photography

my photography's a little off track lately, somehow i seem to have lost the touch and feel to spot great shots or unique subjects to shoot. i need perspectives and lighting but with the time i have with work and on weekends i doubt i can shoot when the morning sun has just shone its glorious warm rays. with work five days a week, saturdays and sundays are meant for sleeping till noon then out for lunch and shopping.

There's plenty of shanghai that i have yet to see and explore, gosh i seriously need to make my weekends and off days more happening and sweet. oh grocery shopping at the local market on a sunday morning is kinda exciting too cause who knows when was the last time since i went to one. the sight of fresh vegetables piling high at each store simply brings joy to me. the butcher with fresh meat hanging off the hook and the rows of eggs lined up neatly. there was no stench surprisingly as the market smelled of what a market should smell like.

As the saying goes it never hurts to over dress than to under dress, and my oh my i was wearing shirt and jeans. stepping into the market felt kinda weird as everyone there was in some simple cotten tee and pants or even in their sleeping clothes. but nevertheless the experience was still great.

Work has just gotten more interesting as i am doing turn down service. in simpler terms it means preparing the room for bedtime by folding down the duvet a little so the guest can snuggle in easily and of course by placing a bottle of water at the bedside table. and finally by diming the lights and finally touching up the bathroom. and the speed at which we are going about every evening was described as a typhoon raging in and out. with thirty rooms every evening it's no wonder why. tralala

suzhou knocks

yeah we brought them to rendezvous restaurant to reminisce the hawker fare of home. oh what a night at xin tian d thereafter and gosh, somehow the club seems to be getting all the songs wrong. the kind of music the djs were playing simply *yawns*. i am so gonna spend my next chillin night at one of those cozy dreamy cafes, listening to the music and staring at the candle light with my cuppa.

soon shanghai will come knocking on the doors of suzhou and my oh my, it's only half an hour by train. i will love to visit the gardens and water villages nearby. so pretty.

feels good seeing them though. reminds me of my school days walking towards the classroom and you simply can't help but smiling when you see them waiting outside. although i am looking forward to finish my internsip period, the thought of graduating seems awefully unappetising. time really flies when you're having fun, after all the complaining and dreadful days in sentosa suddenly i'm hoping that it never ended.

The director of public relations at four seasons shanghai asked us what are the chances of working in the city and my answer was close to zero. difficult for words to explain, i just feel that adapting to the culture and people of the city is one thing, but there are so many cities in the world to experience, but of course at a price. however i do not really care since my passion is with flying and seriously i will place my career path in the airline industry first before considering the hotel industry.
